The Limits of Base44 for Mobile Monetization
How to Implement FaceID Login in Base44 using Wanilla
Code Integration Example
Wanilla's biometric integration provides:
- Automatic setup — Face ID/Touch ID is enabled by default for supported devices
- Secure credential storage — login tokens are stored in the iOS Keychain, protected by the Secure Enclave
- Fallback handling — graceful degradation to passcode or password when biometrics aren't available
- Session management — configurable session duration with biometric re-authentication
Users authenticate with a glance instead of typing credentials — native UX that web apps simply can't match.
How this works with a Base44 build specifically
Base44 apps ship with Base44's own hosted authentication — usually Google sign-in plus an email fallback — and the session is held in the browser. That session is exactly what Face ID protects. Wanilla does not replace your Base44 login; it puts a native biometric lock in front of the already-authenticated session.
- Publish your Base44 app to its base44.app address or your own custom domain. Nothing in your Base44 project changes.
- Wanilla loads that address inside the native shell and stores the session token in the iOS Keychain rather than in web storage, so it survives app restarts and is encrypted by the device.
- On every cold start the shell asks for Face ID (or Touch ID, or the device passcode as Apple requires as a fallback) before the web view is revealed.
- If biometrics fail or are unavailable, the user falls back to your normal Base44 sign-in screen — no dead end.
The Base44 limitations this works around
- Base44 has no native module system, so there is no way to call Apple's LocalAuthentication framework from inside the app itself.
- WebAuthn/passkeys in mobile Safari are not the same as an app-level Face ID gate and do not satisfy reviewers looking for protection of sensitive in-app data.
- Browser storage is cleared more aggressively on iOS, which is why Base44 apps saved to the home screen log people out; the Keychain approach fixes that.
Typical setup time on our side is under a day, and no code is added to your Base44 project.

How to publish your Base44 app with FaceID Login
- 1
Connect your Base44 app
Share the live URL of your Base44 app. Nothing is rebuilt — the existing build stays the source of truth.
- 2
Wire up native FaceID Login
Wanilla wraps the app in a native iOS shell and injects real native FaceID Login support, so the app is not a thin web wrapper under Apple Guideline 4.2.
- 3
Prepare the App Store listing
Bundle ID, App Store Connect record, privacy nutrition labels, screenshots, description and keywords are prepared for submission.
- 4
Configure pricing and paywall
Subscriptions and in-app purchases are created in App Store Connect and wired to StoreKit 2, with the paywall configured remotely so pricing changes need no new review.
- 5
Submit to Apple and go live
The build is submitted to App Review — typically within 24 hours of kickoff — and Wanilla handles any reviewer feedback until the app is approved.
